Build and Program a Laptop You Take Home

Choosing a laptop these days can be hard to do but building your own with Raspberry Pi and Python opens students to a whole new world where they are designers and creators of incredible things. Explore the internet of things through building and programming a pi-top [3] laptop: the perfect tool to help you learn to code, create awesome devices, and take your knowledge to the next level.

This course builds upon knowledge of basic programming and circuitry to empower students to build their own unique projects using the Raspberry Pi and a variety of sensors. Students will learn the basics of Python, physical computing with the Pi, and how to use the Pi’s internet connectivity to communicate with it remotely.

Students in this course will take home a pi top [3]: The Makers’ Laptop.

About Robotics and Engineering Courses

Our Robotics courses teach kids the basics of electrical engineering and programming as they design and build robots and other devices. This course goes beyond building a simple robot and instead works with the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things is described as everyday objects having network connectivity, allowing them to send and receive data. Students have the opportunity to design a device that takes input from the real world and connects it to the internet and other devices. Students will take advantage of the Internet of Things by coding in Python while tackling challenges that require creative thinking and elegant design. Explore more robotics and engineering courses.

Friday Showcase

At the end of each week, attendees can invite their family and friends to join us for a showcase celebration to share their final projects. Learn more about the fun and exciting activities your child experienced during the week and have an opportunity to meet your child’s instructor. Presentations vary by course topic and instructors will highlight some of the important concepts covered during the week and possible next steps to continue your child’s learning. Arrive early as showcase begins at 3:00 and is typically finished by 4:00.

Camp Upgrades

Get the most out of your summer with Digital Media Academy when you add any or all of the following:

Lunch Plan

Make things easy and get lunch on campus so you don’t have to pack your own. Lunch Plans start at $95/week at select locations.

Overnight Housing

Stay in the dorms and eat on-campus, Sunday through Friday. Overnight Housing starts at $695/week where available.

Extended Day

Our flexible Extended Day option allows families to pick-up students as late as 6:00 PM from Monday to Thursday at all locations.

Weekend Stay

Add Weekend Stay and enjoy extra activities and day trips around the area. Weekend Stay starts at $380/weekend at select locations.
