What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a “sandbox” game, which lets players create their own world. It allows users to free-build whatever they’d like out of the material they mine from the ground. Players have made everything from working computers to full-scale models of cities from Lord of the Rings. Minecraft is like virtual LEGO’s and can be used as a learning platform!

Does my child need a Minecraft account?

Yes. While no game design or programming experience is required, all students are must have a Minecraft account for this course. You can purchase a standard account and desktop version of Minecraft at Students must bring their account login when they come to class.

Will my child just be playing Minecraft all day?

No. We use Minecraft as a platform to help teach students the various roles required to develop a video game – they stay engaged and learn how to design!
