Adventures in Minecraft Game Design

Kids Camp  Ages 8-12

Design and Build A Minecraft Adventure Map

Take your problem-solving skills to the next level while learning to build and modify amazing Minecraft™ worlds. Minecraft allows players to create their own unique virtual worlds with blocks of material mined from the ground.

As you build your virtual world, you also explore the different roles required to develop a video game, including: programmer, game designer, architect and artist. After learning the basics of each role, you will concentrate on one or two roles, while working together as a development team to build an Adventure Map.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a “sandbox” game, which lets players create their own world. It allows users to free-build whatever they’d like out of material they mine from the ground. Players have made everything from working computers to full-scale models of cities from Lord of the Rings. Minecraft is like virtual LEGO’s and can be used as a learning platform!

Does my child need a Minecraft account?

Yes. While no game design or programming experience is required, all students are must have a Minecraft account for this course. You can purchase a standard account and desktop version of Minecraft at minecraft.net/store. Students must bring their account login when they come to class.

Will my child just be playing Minecraft all day?

No. We use Minecraft as a platform to help teach students the various roles required to develop a video game – they stay engaged and learn how to design!
