Design and Print Your Own 3D Models

Discover 3D printing and how 3D printing is changing our future. We’ll follow the same processes an industrial designer goes through to create a product: Sketch your ideas out on paper, turn your sketch into a 3D model in CAD programs on the computer, and then bring your idea to life by 3D printing your 3D model. We’ll also learn the “Design Thinking” process taught by Stanford University.

In partnership with Ultimaker, we are proud to offer our students access to the highest rated prosumer 3D printer to use throughout the course.

Get ready for a fun and meaningful camp experience through project-based learning

What Students Learn

  • Learn how to operate a 3D printer.
  • Discover how 3D printing is changing our future and how companies use it to develop products.
  • Create digital 3D models using computer-aided design (CAD) software like Autodesk Fusion 360.
  • Make your ideas a reality using rapid prototyping with 3D printers.
  • Understand the engineering and design process, and the elements of industrial design.

What Students Create

  • A collection of three 3D printed prototypes.
  • Printer-ready models created in CAD software.
  • Playable dice, USB drive case, a ring, or other objects designed by the students.

More About This Course

Our 3D Modeling + Design camps prepare students with the skills they will need working in a professional 3D modeling, animation, and design environment. Our 3D Printing & Product Design course gives students a look into the process of an industrial designer as they create 3D models using CAD software. Students will turn their ideas into reality and rapidly prototype their designs using an Ultimaker 3D printer. By the end of the week, students will understand the engineering and design process as well as discover how 3D printing is changing our future.

In addition to developing teens’ interests and passions for the latest in new tech, our camps foster personal growth, confidence, and independence; preparing students for life beyond high school and college.

I do not have any 3D design, modeling or printing experience. Will I be able to keep up with the course?

No problem. This course teaches foundational concepts for design and modeling with easy-to-use but feature-rich software, tailored to work with the 3D-printing process.

Who should attend this course?

Our 3D Printing & Product Design course is developed for teens who are interested in the industrial design process and want to bring their ideas and creations to life with a real 3D-printed model. Students use cutting-edge, 3D-printing technology to produce, evaluate and re-iterate models and design creations.

Do students need to bring a laptop and/or a 3D printer?

No. DMA provides the 3D printer, 3D printing materials, and computers to use throughout the week.

Friday Showcase

At the end of each week, attendees can invite their family and friends to join us for a showcase celebration to share their final projects. Learn more about the fun and exciting activities your child experienced during the week and have an opportunity to meet your child’s instructor. Presentations vary by course topic and instructors will highlight some of the important concepts covered during the week and possible next steps to continue your child’s learning. Arrive early as showcase begins at 3:00 and is typically finished by 4:00.

Camp Upgrades

Lunch Plan

Get lunch on campus so you don’t have to pack your own. Lunch Plans start at $68/week at select locations.

Overnight Housing

Stay in the dorms and eat on-campus, Sunday through Friday. Overnight Housing starts at $675/week where available.

Weekend Stay

Add Weekend Stay and enjoy extra activities and day trips around the area. Weekend Stay starts at $405/weekend at select locations.
