This summer, Digital Media Academy will again present its tech camps at Bryn Mawr College, located in the rolling hills of scenic Pennsylvania.
The campus is full of ancient-looking stone buildings, many with cool, castle-like towers.
Touring the grounds of Bryn Mawr is almost like stepping back into time – as if you wandered onto the set of Game of Thrones!
During Summer 2015, DMA will again operate its celebrated summer tech-camp programs on the Bryn Mawr campus, where distinguished graduates have studied since 1885.
The amazing and beautiful 135-acre setting will become the temporary home of kids and teens from all over the east coast and beyond. While they’re soaking up the college atmosphere, students will also be exploring their creative passions in cutting-edge activities like game design, animation, app development, robotics, filmmaking, programming and more.
Quick Facts on Bryn Mawr
• Bryn Mawr College takes its name from the town of Bryn Mawr, named for an area in Wales. This is why many of the residence halls at Bryn Mawr (where DMA teen campers in the overnight program get to bunk) are named for different Welsh counties.
• The town was founded by a Pennsylvania man who had come to America from Wales.
• The name “Bryn Mawr” is a Welsh phrase meaning “big hill.”
• A major “girl power” supporter, Bryn Mawr was the first institution of higher learning in the U.S. to make graduate degrees available to female students.
Bryn Mawr College is recognized as one of the most selective private women’s liberal arts colleges in the nation. Even now, it keeps its enrollment very low – around 1,300 undergrads and 450 grad students – in order to provide low student-to-teacher ratios. (DMA also works hard to maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio in each of its camp courses.)
Unlocking the Digital Future and Seeing the Historic Past
This coming summer, DMA students at Bryn Mawr and other campuses will be discovering the transforming power of technology as they explore subjects like programming, robotics engineering with LEGO® and Arduino™, digital filmmaking, game design with Minecraft™, 3D modeling & animation, music & audio production, app development and more.
And best of all, Bryn Mawr is just minutes away from hustling, bustling Philadelphia – rich with history and full of fun things for families to do during a summer vacation. Just 11 miles from the Bryn Mawr campus, Philadelphia is the cradle of American liberty, overflowing with famous pieces of history (e.g., the Liberty Bell), as well as big-city shopping and entertainment.
