Learn from Professional Filmmakers

Shoot and edit your own digital film while learning the concepts and structure of cinematic storytelling. This introductory course includes in-class presentations that cover and demonstrate techniques of the moving image, such as sound production, editing and other basic elements. This incredibly entertaining film camp includes everything taught in a university film production school but in a fast-paced and engaging format suited especially for today’s media savvy teenagers.

Screenings, film discussions and analysis of the student’s work also play key parts. From pre-production planning and script writing, to shooting, editing, output and distribution, all aspects of filmmaking are covered. Participants get a firm understanding of how to work with a variety of techniques to produce outstanding digital film results.

Course Content Software Used
• Shooting with HD cameras & professional tripods
• Various stages of production, and scriptwriting & storyboarding techniques
• Microphone & audio-recording techniques
• Camera techniques with natural light & reflectors
• Basic video editing & techniques using Final Cut Pro®
• Outputting video for web, YouTube, mobile devices and DVD

Course may vary slightly based on student expertise & class interest. All students work on their own personal projects, which they keep.

Ages 13-17 | Beginner – Intermediate | No Filmmaking Experience Required

This course is for beginning filmmakers who demonstrate both an interest and ability in filmmaking. For any teen interested in a career in the movie industry or eager to enhance a college portfolio.

This course is hands-on and covers script writing, shooting and final editing. Aspiring filmmakers learn movie-making and video editing techniques using Final Cut Pro® under the supervision of professional filmmakers, who provide hands-on instruction in a fun and entertaining setting.
