Teens: Academy for iPhone® & iPad® App & Game Development
Build Apps & Games Using Apple’s Professional Developer Tools
This engaging, two-week hands-on experience is for teens who want to launch careers or imaginations by developing apps for Apple® iDevices like the iPhone® and iPad®. Students create apps and games using the same development tools as game industry professionals.
This academy combines curriculum from the following courses:
Week One: App Development for iPhone® & iPad® with Objective-C – Students learn how to use Objective-C, Interface Builder and XCode® under the helpful guidance of a professional app developer. Students use the same tools used by professional game development teams to create games and apps.
Week Two: Game Development for iPhone® & iPad® with Objective-C and Kobold 2D – Teens explore unique approaches to development, by discovering how to leverage powerful game engines like Kobold 2D, as they learn game design.
What You’ll Learn: Academy for iPhone® & iPad® App & Game Development
Digital Media Academy may slightly vary curriculum to better fit the needs/expertise level of a given class.
Who Should Attend: Academy for iPhone® & iPad® App & Game DevelopmentAges 13–17 | Intermediate – Advanced | Basic Understanding of Objective-C, Java™ or any Object-Oriented Programming Language
For students with some experience in app development. Also for aspiring mobile developers who want to take their existing expertise to a more professional level by updating their development skills.
PLEASE NOTE: Students must provide their own iPhone®, iPad® or iPod touch® device running the Apple® iOS. First-generation iPod touch® devices may not run apps. Students need to bring their device and power cord to class every day. So updates do not interfere with game development, students are asked NOT TO UPDATE their operating system during camp. DMA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
DMA students have access to DMA’s Apple® Developer accounts for at least nine months after their course. If students want to publish apps to the App Store, or continue to use or play their game or app on their device, they will need to purchase their own Apple® Developer Account from Apple for $100/year.
“Jailbroken” devices are unable to load student games. Students develop games using DMA Developer Accounts and DMA assets (models, textures, sounds, etc.). As a result, students are not able to upload their games to the Apple® App Store using these assets. Students can, however, create their own assets in Introduction to 3D Art and Modeling for Game Design. Student games remain active on devices for three months after the end of class.
