Teens: The Academy for Game Design  

Learn Game Design using Maya® and the Unreal™ Game Engine

Serious about video games? Are you interested in a career in game art and design? Then two exciting and intense weeks at the Digital Media Academy for Game Design summer camp are for you! Students are guided through the process of game design by industry professionals, all while using industry-standard game-development tools. Build a 3D environment and game characters using Maya®, learn modeling and texture mapping, create a custom game character and learn how to build a gaming environment—including buildings and other elements.

All students have the opportunity to load their custom level and character into the Unreal Engine™ and play in a professional gaming environment. Stay on campus in the residential program for a complete experience and extra opportunities for serious gaming, such as tournaments and more.

What You’ll Learn: Academy for Game Design

Course Content Software Used
• How to create and define the details of a 3D game environment & project
• Autodesk® Maya 2012® basics for environmental models
• Techniques for low polygon modeling and optimizing poly count for games
• Creating textures using Adobe® Photoshop®
• Low polygon modeling techniques for 3D creature/character design
• Character unwrapping and texture mapping
• Character rigging and prepping for the Unreal™ Game Engine

Course may vary slightly based on students skill levels & class interest. All students work on their own personal project.

Ages 13-17 | Beginner – Advanced | No Previous Programming Experience Required

Looking for a career in video-game creation or another digital medium? This academy will take you through the basics of video-game art design while learning industry-standard tools like Autodesk® Maya®, Adobe® Photoshop®, Autodesk® Mudbox® and the Unreal™ Game Development Kit. Start your career as a 3D character artist or digital designer here.

You don’t have to want a career in video-games to enjoy them. Spark the imagination of the gamer within you with a behind-the-scenes look at how games are made. This Academy also includes project planning, critical thinking and group problem-solving and is a great opportunity for any tech-oriented problem-solver interested in high-level game development.
