Teens: Academy for Robotics & Programming  

Immerse Yourself in the World of Hands-on Engineering and Computer Science

This new two-week Academy combines two of DMA’s most popular topics—robotics and Java™ programming—into one dynamic and challenging academy that will that will help you build a strong foundation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).

During the first week you’ll be immersed in the world of programming and robotics using the award-winning LEGO® MINDSTORM® NXT robotics kit and its visual-programming environment. You and your classmates will design, build, program and battle robots. In Week Two, move into the world of writing code with Java™, one of the most widely used and powerful computer programming languages today. Not only is Java™ one of the most advanced and powerful programming languages, but learning Java™ provides a perfect foundation for students to learn additional programming languages such as C++ or Objective C.

• The capabilities of the LEGO® MINDSTORM® NXT robotics kit
• Gear designs and robot-building techniques
• Programming using the NXT-G system
• Object-oriented programming essentials with Java™
• Algorithms & creative problem-solving
• Programming graphics, animations & audio
• Game programming & events with Breakout™

Course may vary slightly based on student expertise & class interest. All students work on their own personal projects, which they keep.
