For Adults: Maya 2010: Texturing and Lighting

Advanced 3D texturing and lighting with Maya experts

This course covers two key components of the 3D pipeline: materials and lighting. Materials are the surface attributes of 3D objects, such as color, transparency, and shininess. The heart of material creation is Hypershade, Maya’s advanced node-based materials editor. We cover essential techniques for creating common materials such as glass, metal, stone and skin. In addition, we spend some time in Photoshop, learning how to create seamless, tileable maps.

Students in the class also receive an overview of lighting options available in Maya. Using the advanced mental ray renderer, we explore a range of techniques, including physically accurate daylight, studio lighting, practical lighting, and exposure control. By the end of the course, participants will have experience with both cartoon and photorealistic lighting schemes.
