Course Overview
As this game design course is meant to be a window into the game production process, students will begin the week by learning about the pre-production process and creating a game design document. This document will define the game play and interactions that students wish for their game. Students will then turn their attention to creating assets for a predetermined 3D game project. Defining quality expectations for models, textures, and setting milestones for asset progress will also be part of the real world game production process learned in this course. Students will be tasked with creating different assets based on ability and inclination.
After the planning process is complete, the real fun begins as everyone starts to work on the game. The emphasis will be on producing true game quality assets using advanced modeling, texturing and animation techniques with industry standard game creation tools such as 3ds max, Maya, Photoshop and the Unreal Game Engine (Unreal Ed.) With the help of the expert instructor and knowledgeable technical assistants, students will have all the support they need to complete their game assets to a professional level of quality. At the end the week you will have most of the assets needed to complete a high level mod, but not quite enough to make a new game. That’s for next week!
New for 2007
All DMA Game Creation Courses Including Game Modding will use the Unreal Game Engine and Unreal Technology including the UnrealEd Content Creation Tool from Epic Games. This latest version of the Unreal Engine is the game industry standard for next generation PC and Console based games for the both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Most of the major game publishers such as Namco, Microsoft, Sony and EA have licensed the Unreal Game Engine.
