Documentary Filmmaking
Master the fundamentals with DMA's immersive documentary filmmaking class
Documentary filmmaking has rapidly increased in popularity in recent years as amateur and Hollywood artists alike take advantage of lower equipment costs and an increased demand for non-fiction, unbiased storytelling.
This class offers an overview of digital documentary filmmaking, from philosophy through production and editing. It's a fast-paced mix of screenings, demonstrations, and hands-on work with some of the best current digital filmmaking tools, such as Sony HDV cameras and audio equipment, portable lighting kits, professional tripods and Final Cut Studio for post-production and editing.
You’ll get hands-on experience with advanced shooting techniques, microphones and audio recording, post-production strategies and documentary workflow while focusing on what it takes to effectively tell documentary stories using digital media. We'll cover storytelling methods and creative approaches to documentary as well as research, scripting and practical technical issues.
