DMA Instructor Mike Skocko

Mike is a graphic/fine artist who would still be drawing, sculpting, painting, and/or designing had he not discovered the joy of teaching late in his arrested youth.

Armed with a B.F.A. and several teaching credentials, Mike landed at Valhalla High School in the Spring of 2002 where he continues to have far too much fun teaching Digital Arts, Web Design, Multimedia Production and 3D Design & Animation. He still can’t believe he actually gets paid to come in and play on the computers with the kids all day.

This year he was named the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) Education Innovator of the Month, Valhalla’s Teacher of the Year, and the Rotary Club’s R.O.P. GUHSD Teacher of the Year.

Mike’s online tutorials are legendary. He is currently working on a revolutionary new method of teaching Flash that will make it easier than ever to learn to build sophisticated projects with this powerful yet often intimidating program. Students in his 2007 DMA classes will be the first to benefit from these new lessons.

When not planted in front of a computer, he also enjoys flinging the frisbee, bodysurfing, freestyle juggling, and building sandcastles with his wife and ten-year-old daughter in sunny Southern California. His art has been exhibited in San Diego, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Mike currently fancies himself a budding amateur photographer and has an odd penchant for bursting into song; however, due to a tragic lack of vocal ability the latter activity has been confined to the shower (as per request by his otherwise loving wife).
